Fiorentina breathed a sigh of relief after tests showed Milan Badelj avoided knee ligament damage.

The midfielder was helped off the pitch in agony during last night’s 3-1 Coppa Italia victory over Atalanta following a knock to the right knee.

“Tests revealed a patellar contusion, but confirmed that there was no knee ligament damage. Badelj has already begun treatment on the injury,” read a statement.

Badelj also spoke to Goal.com Croatia and revealed “Montella complimented me on my performance. I am happy in Florence and for the first time played two games in four days.

“In recent months I was not happy, as you can’t be when you don’t play. Our objective is to reach third place and we can do it.”
