Empoli President Fabrizio Corsi slammed Roma, suggesting “those who use the violin get advantages.”

The patron spoke to Radio Deejay after a very controversial Coppa Italia exit in extra time was decided by a penalty.

“I have been in football for 20 years and every now and then get to participate in Serie A, but perhaps I’m too conciliatory with the system,” said President Corsi.

The patron spoke to Radio Deejay after a very controversial Coppa Italia exit in extra time was decided by a penalty.

“I have been in football for 20 years and every now and then get to participate in Serie A, but perhaps I’m too conciliatory with the system,” said President Corsi.

“I am taking a bit too much pressure off the referees, whereas I see those who use the violin get advantages.”

The violin is a reference to sob stories and attempts to gain sympathy from clubs who regularly protest at decisions not going their way.

Corsi had already implied this week that Roma and Rudi Garcia’s complaints had paid off with a contentious penalty awarded in the Coppa.

“I’d happily pay to introduce goal-line technology, but we also need to discuss the way a referee controls a game and not just individual incidents. The distribution of free kicks and cards also needs to be done right.

Udinese and Empoli are not happy with the way referees have been performing this season, but Pozzo is a louder voice on the scene than mine.”
