The Viola dominated the first half and went into the break 1-0 up through Mario Gomez, but Ljajic equalised after the restart for a 1-1 draw.

“We knew Fiorentina are a great team with many talented players and are good at keeping the ball,” the young Serbian told Sky Sport Italia.

“In the first half they were better than us, but we came out for the second half and were the only ones playing. It’s just a shame we were only able to get one goal.”

Ljajic refused to celebrate the goal against his former club, having promised to keep his cool in interviews before the match.

“As I said before the game, I couldn’t celebrate here. I have so many friends here, I had so many emotions and I still have a house in Florence. I really couldn’t celebrate out of respect for the jersey I was proud to wear.”

Juventus are now seven points clear at the top of the Serie A table, so is the Scudetto race over?

“We look at our own path, there’s a long way to go and we won’t give up till the very end.”
