“We lack consistency and must try to find it. Chievo are a solid unit who are well-organised, need points and therefore it’ll be a difficult game. We must win to get third place and look forward,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Chievo earned a shock victory at the Stadio San Paolo earlier this season, so are not to be underestimated.

“The key for us is winning against smaller teams, so we above all need consistency in those fixtures. Winning these matches gives you more confidence.

“We are very strong in attack with many players who can score goals and that tends to leave us unbalanced. This is why we decided to focus on David Lopez and Walter Gargano in midfield. Jorginho and Inler can play, but must adapt to other duties.

“The competition between Mertens and De Guzman is very positive for them and also for you journalists. They each have their characteristics, are both dynamic and can take men on.”

Benitez’s contract expires at the end of the season and he was again asked whether he had decided on his future.

“We will talk about this in two or three months. Right now I want to think only about taking Napoli as high as possible.

“In these 18 months I have seen many things improve, from the training to the mentality, but we can do more. We are taking on a more international aspect and that is positive for the club.

“We have done everything to ensure the club and team continues to grow, independently of the Coach. It doesn’t matter whether I stay or not, as we are in professional football and all united to win.

“Then we’ll see what happens in a few months. Napoli will be strong even after I leave.”
