The Lega Serie A voted to introduce goal-line technology from 2015-16, but there are three systems available.

The decision was made in today’s meeting of the 20 top flight clubs, confirming the technology will be paid for by the teams and the Lega Serie A.

Each system is expected to cost around €170,000.

There will now be a seven-man commission to choose the system used for clarifying so-called ‘phantom goals.’

The Premier League uses ‘Hawk-Eye’, but there are other options on the market, including a microchip inside the football and German-Danish GoalRef technology.

This could also lead to the use of goal-line referees being dropped in Serie A games.
