“I thought Chievo had played well even with Eugenio Corini in charge, but when results don’t go your way it is easier to change Coach than an entire squad of players,” shrugged Mihajlovic in a Press conference.

“Rolando Maran is doing well with a solid, tough team. We need the right mentality to break them down, as although our technique might be superior, we have to match Chievo’s work-rate.”

Sampdoria were the surprise outfit in the first half of the season and went into this weekend in joint fourth place.

“We are not losing momentum at all. Our last two home games with Palermo and Sassuolo saw us play with more intensity, but there were distractions caused by the transfer window. Now that is closed we can focus again.”

Next week there is a huge appointment for the city of Genoa, as Sampdoria face their rivals in the Derby della Lanterna.

“I will only think about the derby when we get there, as first I want to make a few changes and evaluate everyone’s progress.

“Luis Muriel will not start, but he will certainly play. I have also seen Samuel Eto’o improving, though he’s not quite at the same level as his teammates yet.

“Acquah is an intelligent guy and his aggression will help us in midfield. He will start so that he can settle in to the tactical movements as soon as possible.”

Stefano Okaka is suspended with Fabrizio Cacciatore, Luca Rizzo, Ezequiel Munoz and Sergio Romero sidelined.

Sampdoria squad for Chievo: Frison, Massolo, Viviano; Coda, De Silvestri, Mesbah, Regini, Romagnoli, Silvestre; Acquah, Correa, Duncan, Ivan, Lulic, Marchionni, Obiang, Palombo, Soriano; Bergessio, Djordjevic, Eder, Eto'o, Muriel, Wszolek
