Roberto Donadoni said Parma’s performance to hold second-placed Roma proves their “dignity” in dire circumstances.

The players have not been paid since July 2014 and tomorrow is the deadline for their third owners in as many months to cover that debt.

“We heard many promises over the last few months. At least we give credit to the new owners for coming out and talking to everyone, which others did not do. We’ll judge the results when they come.”

Nonetheless, the Ducali put in a solid performance and forced Roma into a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Olimpico.

“I am training a group of lads who have great dignity. We proved that today and were up to the task. Nobody should ever fear these players won’t give their all for Parma,” Donadoni told Sky Sport Italia.

“Until we are mathematically relegated, then it is our duty to try and secure safety. We can’t just blame off the field problems for our position in the table. Of course those did have an impact, but we also had many injuries.

“I had to field players today who weren’t 100 per cent, such as Mattia Cassani after his surgery. Once we have more options available, we’ll see better performances.

“The lads deserve this result and we’ll try to build on it. Over the last three or four games we’ve been playing as a real team and that reaps benefits, or at least it should, as we haven’t been lucky recently.

“It’s a shame to see people assume we should already be resigned to relegation. Parma deserve to be respected too.”
