Pippo Inzaghi believes the 2-0 win over Cesena can be the performance Milan needed to boost confidence.

“We’re happy, but we’ve done nothing yet. I wanted us to win with a good performance to give the players more confidence and I think we’ve done that today,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Clearly we need to win two or three in a row to get properly back on track, but this is a good start.”

“We’re happy, but we’ve done nothing yet. I wanted us to win with a good performance to give the players more confidence and I think we’ve done that today,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Clearly we need to win two or three in a row to get properly back on track, but this is a good start.”

Giacomo Bonaventura opened the scoring and impressed in his new position behind two strikers.

“He is the kind of player any Coach wants, as wherever you put him, he performs. I thought to have more balance and possession a three-man midfield was fundamental.

“I chose Jack as trequartista because he has the intelligence and capabilities to play there. He set up a goal that was disallowed, scored one, hit the post and helped out in defence.

“We always played with three in midfield until we lost De Jong and Montolivo. Seeing as Riccardo was coming back, I was able to return to that approach.

“Cerci can comfortably be a support striker and Honda plays in the hole, so we have many different tactical options available to us.”

Mattia Destro struggled to create chances, so does ex-centre-forward Inzaghi have some advice?

“He trains very well, probably needs a little time to get into our tactical system, but should relax and did score last week. I’m sure he will find the net next week.”

Giampaolo Pazzini got his first goal of the season from the penalty spot in stoppages.

“I was very clear with Giampaolo in January when we signed Destro. He knows his role and that there is competition for places. I also know he trains well, has the right attitude and lives for the goal, so he can be counted on when called. We have a very honest rapport made of reciprocal respect.”

Inzaghi was asked whether this victory had quelled the tension between him and President Silvio Berlusconi?

“The President never criticised me. If anything, he’s too good to me. Since we started the negative period of form, he’s been calling me every day to be reassuring. On Friday he rang me at 7.45am and I was asleep, but it was nice to hear from him anyway!”
