The Gialloblú are in a dire financial crisis which saw them missing two Serie A matches because they could not cover the costs of the games.

The city mayor Federico Pizzarotti yesterday even suggested taking away control of the club from Manenti via an auction, to which the President responded that “a sale of the club would go through me”.

But the new owner of the Ducali clarified today that his suggestion was merely hypothetical.

“I never said I'm selling Parma,” he stated, in an interview with Tuttomercatoweb. “I said it was one of three possible solutions.

“Money isn't a problem, now let's think of our plan [for the rehabilitation of the club].

“Yesterday we tried to solve the situation, over the next few days – subject to the availability of the city council – we will present our plan.

“In the meantime we'll start paying our employees. Everything else will fall in place accordingly."

Manenti was asked to be more specific about the dates when everything would be sorted.

“Very soon. But I won't talk of dates anymore. Everything will be ready today as far as the plan goes.

“We'll see whether I choose to keep Pietro Leonardi. I've known him since his time at Juventus, he is a top professional, just like [Coach Roberto] Donadoni.

“I found professionals here. I saw a group that wanted to get things done. Of course everybody thinks I have a magic wand, but it's not like that. It was always going to take time.”

Manenti also said that he did not care about people apologising to him, even if he did manage to sort out Parma's situation.

“It's not important, I just want to work.”
