A row erupted between the Players’ Association and President of the Lega Pro Mario Macalli over the Parma crisis.

All Serie A games last weekend started 15 minutes late due to a protest from the AIC (Players’ Association) over the fact nobody at Parma has been paid since July.

“It’s hypocritical and the players should be ashamed of themselves,” said Macalli, President of the Lega Pro – Italy’s third division.

“They drive off from the Collecchio training ground with 22-metre-long Ferraris… If they put in €5,000 per head, they’d solve many of the problems.

“Why didn’t the Lega Pro clubs in difficulty have the chance to call off their games like Parma did? If players aren’t getting paid, they should put the club into administration.”

The AIC did not hesitate in hitting back at Macalli via Vice-President Umberto Calcagno.

“We would expect more responsibility and less easy platitudes from someone who in 30 years in football has seen dozens of clubs go bankrupt.”
