Mimmo Di Carlo praised Cesena’s “courage” for fighting Inter on level terms at San Siro in a 1-1 draw.

Gregoire Defrel had given the Sea Horses a shock half-time lead, but it was wiped out by Rodrigo Palacio.

“It’s good to have consistency in results and to a degree in performance too, as we played with heart at San Siro,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“The team knows we have to play with courage. We could’ve won, we risked defeat. We have limitations, but make up for them with pace and determination.

“I expected Inter to react after their first half, but hoped to last a little longer before conceding the equaliser.

“I am happy for the team and the fans, as the point here boosts confidence and moves us up the table a little bit.”

Andrea Ranocchia appeared to clatter into Carlos Carbonero at one stage, but the referee waved away penalty appeals.

“Unfortunately over the last five or six games we’ve had penalties given against us in a very superficial way.

“We did not receive a clear penalty tonight, but it happened and there’s no point going on about it now. We just hope to be luckier next time.”

Cesena are still in penultimate place, but now level with Cagliari and four points adrift of the safety zone.

“When I arrived, the squad was lacking in confidence, so we tried to introduce our methods and above all get the team involved in the process. That doesn’t mean they dictate the line-up to us! We get them involved in set plays, training techniques and they are a pleasure to coach.

“I do want the team to be more attacking and press our opponents higher up the field, though. We work hard in terms of organisation, but the forwards know each other so well that they combine brilliantly.

“I am glad of Defrel’s goal, as he attacked the space. Defrel and Franco Brienza are perhaps the players with the most quality, but if we don’t play as a team then they won’t get anything done.

“I am just glad we came here to San Siro and faced Inter with courage.”
