The ex-Lazio player opened the scoring at the Stadio Olimpico this evening, where the Giallorossi had been unbeaten in Serie A this season.

“It meant a lot. We prepared well during the week, talked for a long time with the Coach and played a great game,” De Silvestri told Sky Sport Italia.

“We defended well and went on the counter. I am happy for the goal, but it was thanks to the whole squad.”

Samp have won three on the bounce and are now level with Fiorentina, just one point behind fourth-placed Napoli.

“Now we are up there. We started well with these four games against big clubs and really wanted to win for the President too. He asked us to win here and we did it.

“The Coach has given us a lot of self-belief, organisation and lets us both have fun and get clobbered if we do things wrong.”

Roma were jeered off the field by their home fans, though it was their first Serie A defeat since November.

“I am sorry for the jeers, as I know that for a player it’s never nice to be jeered, but I am sure Roma will emerge from this moment.”
