On from striker Lukas Podolski's admission that the 5-2 aggregate defeat in the Europa League was 'hard to explain', the 28-year-old also expressed his discontent.

“I have nothing to say, the fans expected better from us,” he told the Press at the Rho Fiera event in Milan.

“Yesterday they were hoping for a victory. It was hard, and we tried. I'm a supporter myself and I'm sorry, I didn't like that.

“Now we must believe in it, try and win every game and then we'll see what happens.

“The truth is that we, the players, haven't won anything. We must think that all of us have to contribute a bit more in order to win.

“We have a phenomenal opportunity to bring prestige back to this club.”

The Colombian was also asked what went wrong specifically in the game against Wolfsburg.

“We had our chances, but we had no luck when it came to finding the goal.

“We conceded a goal we weren't expecting, and after the 1-1 our strength failed us too.”
