“I will meet up with many old friends in Naples and it will be an emotional moment,” said the Coach who was at the helm from 2005 to 2009, when the Partenopei were rebuilding after bankruptcy.

“There has always been a reciprocal affection with Napoli. I had intense and wonderful years here, from the inferno of Serie C to qualifying for Europe.

“As for this game, we must above all be wary not to concede in the opening minutes, but I am convinced our counter-attacks can really hurt Napoli.

“Of course, you can’t afford to make any mistakes against the big clubs and especially Napoli. With Manolo Gabbiadini they’ve further strengthened an already excellent front line.”

Since replacing sacked Stefano Colantuono, Reja has put together two goalless draws on the Atalanta bench.

“I saw a good performance against Udinese, at least for an hour, then we lost intensity on a psychological more than physical level. We are working to overcome these difficulties.

“German Denis is not the player I once knew. He needs to find his fitness levels and get the timing of his movements right, but I trust in him.

“I expect he feels a great deal of responsibility on his shoulders in this delicate time for the club, but I believe a goal will really change his mood.”

Carlos Carmona is suspended with Cristian Raimondi and Marcelo Estigarribia long-term injuries.
