Eusebio Di Francesco was disappointed that Sassuolo lost to Empoli by conceding “such naive goals.”

The Neroverdi were beaten 3-1 and now fall behind the Tuscans in the Serie A table.

“I am bitter at this result because we conceded such naive goals, especially the second and third,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We fell asleep and you can’t afford that at this level, certainly not against a very organised Empoli side.

“I am bitter at this result because we conceded such naive goals, especially the second and third,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“We fell asleep and you can’t afford that at this level, certainly not against a very organised Empoli side.

“There are incidents that change the dynamics of a game and they scored on a goal kick straight after the restart. We were naive and gave them the chance to go on the counter.”

Di Francesco had advice for striker Simone Zaza, who is called up for Italy’s games against Bulgaria and England.

“He works hard, but must understand not to get so obsessed with scoring a goal. A striker has to score, but also realise he can work with the team.

“I don’t want to just blame him, as today all the strikers should’ve been more determined. It was certainly a step backwards compared to our performance against Parma and we only had the same spirit as Empoli in fits and starts.”

The next Serie A fixture for Sassuolo will be against Chievo, another side fighting to secure safety.

“We have two weeks to prepare, though I’d have preferred to play it right away. We must rediscover our fighting spirit.

“Too many compliments can be bad for us.”
