Italy Under-21 Coach Gigi Di Biagio said he “knew we’d run into difficulties” in their 2-2 draw with Germany.

The friendly on Friday evening in Paderborn was a warm-up for June’s European Under-21 Championship.

“We knew we’d run into difficulties and we struggled their passing game at the start, struggling to close them down in attack and misplacing too many passes,” Di Biagio told Rai Sport.

“We knew we’d run into difficulties and we struggled their passing game at the start, struggling to close them down in attack and misplacing too many passes,” Di Biagio told Rai Sport.

“At the end of the first half we improved, then after the break did very well indeed, creating many scoring opportunities.

“Let’s not forget we were playing against Germany. They are at the top, while we must work hard to reach their level.

“Now we’ll analyse this game together and then think about Serbia.”

Italy’s Under-21 side play Serbia in another friendly on Monday.
