Inter chief Marco Fassone backed “fundamental” Roberto Mancini and warned transfer activity will be “self-financed.”

The director general spoke to Tuttosport about their ambitions for the remaining 10 rounds of the season, having crashed out of the Europa League and Coppa Italia.

“We request great effort, because getting into Europe is fundamental, not just in economic terms, but also when it comes to image, prestige and experience. All these could be guaranteed by the Europa League.

“We request great effort, because getting into Europe is fundamental, not just in economic terms, but also when it comes to image, prestige and experience. All these could be guaranteed by the Europa League.

“In the next 10 games we must have the right concentration and results to achieve our objective for this season.”

It won’t be easy, as the Nerazzurri are in ninth place and above all nine points adrift of the top six, but the club has faith in Mancio.

“Roberto is fundamental for this project, as he is our engine. Everyone in the club has bet on him. When I hear reports of contract clauses or a potential split at the end of the season, I find it laughable.”

Despite falling foul of Financial Fair Play rules, Inter are looking to radically change their squad.

“It’ll be very difficult, because the transfer activity must be self-financed,” admitted Fassone.

“Our director Piero Ausilio will have to work on the right balance of players on loan and in co-ownership deals, keeping a close eye on the balance sheet for entries and exits.

“The transfer session must allow us to create a team that is as close as possible to the Coach’s wishes.”
