“Winning away to Udinese was a very important moment for us, as it showed the team we could fight it out in any arena,” said Gasp of that 4-2 at the Stadio Friuli.

“Now we have to turn the tide on home turf. It’s important to be more prolific, as it’s the only way to get positive results and make the possession pay off.”

Mattia Perin and Lorenzo Ariaudo (who underwent hernia surgery on Friday) are injured with Andrea Bertolacci suspended, so Eugenio Lamanna gets only his second Serie A start.

“Lamanna made the most of his opportunities so far this season and parried two penalties in three games, so this is another good chance for him to show what we can do.

“Tino Costa has now fully recovered and he could be one of those taking part in this match. It’s also possible Marco Borriello will start.”

Genoa are arguably settled into mid-table comfort now, as with 10 rounds to go they’ll struggle to qualify for Europe.

“Rarely in my career have I become so fond of the players. They bring enthusiasm and professionalism to every training session. There is no fear that they will be sated or do anything other than go for victory in every game.”

Genoa squad for Udinese: També, De Maio, Izzo, Burdisso, Perotti, Niang, Roncaglia, Marchese, Lestienne, Bergdich, Pavoletti, Tino Costa, Edenilson, Borriello, Lamanna, Falque, Kucka, Mandragora, Sommariva, Prisco, Rincon, Laxalt
