Although the Viola are in fourth place, they are fresh from a 3-0 home defeat to Juve in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

“For me that game is already behind us and we shouldn’t be talking about it anymore,” said Coach Montella in his Press conference.

“We should talk about tomorrow’s match, which is more important. Napoli are strong, albeit going through a difficult time and we must take advantage of it.”

The Partenopei also went out of the Coppa Italia with a 1-0 home loss to Lazio on Wednesday night.

“I fear their pride and the atmosphere in the stadium, which I’m sure will be right behind the squad. We too must show pride and intelligence to get back on track.

“There are many rumours around Napoli and this can often help players, so we must do well to push the game in the direction we want. We above all need to get straight at them from the start.

“Would I swap Gonzalo Higuain for Mario Gomez? I don’t play fantasy football, so I’ll keep my player. Khouma Babacar didn’t train today and he won’t be available. Neto is in goal because Tatarusanu still isn’t fit.

“To qualify for Europe we need conviction, physical and psychological sharpness. Results help bring more results.

“As for me, I have the pride and hunger to show I can do even more.”

Napoli were thrown into a training retreat after their midweek loss, but Montella is unimpressed.

“I don’t believe in these and don’t really see how they help. It might do only for someone who has a difficult situation at home and needs to relax.”

This week Fiorentina said goodbye to director Eduardo Macia, who has taken over as director of sport at Real Betis.

“It’s a shame, as we collaborated for three years with respect on a personal and professional level. He’ll continue his growth process at Betis and I think with even more important responsibilities, so I’m happy for him.

“Who knows if we’ll work together again, if not in Florence then somewhere else.”
