“Everyone wants to bring home silverware, but I think the team and club has always made another step forward with each passing year,” team manager Guerini told Mediaset.

They are fresh from back-to-back 3-0 defeats to Juventus in the Coppa Italia semi-final and Napoli in Serie A.

“The defeat to Juventus was very heavy, above all on a psychological level. After our great performance and 2-1 victory in Turin, we threw it all away by getting the approach wrong in the second leg.

“Losing to Napoli was a natural consequence of that elimination, but now we are still in the running for two out of three objectives.

“In all honesty, I certainly prefer the Europa League to the Coppa Italia. Over the space of six days we went from the stars to the gutter, but we now have the opportunity to do something important in a campaign that has been positive.

“It’s exciting for a player to challenge for a place in the Europa League semi-final and I think Fiorentina are ready.”
