The incident occurred on Friday when the team was having dinner at the club house, as around 20-30 ultras broke into the Assemini training ground.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the fans insulted and threatened players, even resorting to slaps in the face for defender Nicola Murru and others.

The club insists it was “nothing irreparable” and the supporters simply had a “tough and lively confrontation.”

However, Coach Zeman paints a different picture of what happened inside that club house.

“The players were upset. It’s not easy to get past certain incidents. I continue to say it was not a confrontation, because it was all one way.

“I have to congratulate my squad, as they passively accepted the insults – not because of fear, but to keep the peace.

“They certainly are shocked, as not everyone reacts to these things the same way. It’s down to the group now to react and get back on their feet.”

Cagliari are in penultimate place in the Serie A table and host Napoli on Sunday.
