Roma Coach Rudi Garcia believes that intensity is key to his side getting a positive result from their Serie A clash with Inter on Saturday evening.

The Giallorossi travel to San Siro desperately needing to find form in order to keep pace with rivals Lazio, who they are joint in second place with.

The Frenchman outlined the most important assets for his team ahead of the tie in his pre-match conference on Friday.

“We’ve played with intensity and trust. We must use the former tomorrow, we need intensity because playing Inter is very difficult,” he said.

“We go to every away match looking to win, but we need to rediscover the intensity we had in the first half of the season.”

Gervinho and Miralem Pjanic return from injury to the squad, which Garcia believes will be a big boost for their chances.

“With several players returning we’ve become stronger, there will be some choices to make but you know how I feel about this – the more choices there are to make, the better it is for the squad.

“It raises the level of competition, so I’m happy to have these players back. The team has also improved mentally.

“The players know what I expect from them. We are entering into the final stages of the season and we don’t have any time to lose.”

The Coach refused to be drawn on suggestions that his team are lacking in stimulus for the remaining games.

“You’ll have to ask the players if they’re missing motivation. I’m always the same, I encourage my team and love my players and I know they can do great things.

“At the moment we’re joint second in the league with seven games left and a lot to do. So I must continue to give encouragement and so must the players.

Garcia believes that the return of Federico Balzaretti after almost a year and a half out injured will be a huge boost to team morale.

“Ever since he’s come back he has been very positive – he encourages the team and his return has been very good for us.

“He’s very motivated and knows that returning after 18 months out is a fantastic thing. I really like his positive attitude.”

The Roma boss also revealed that he has had words with under-fire winger Juan Iturbe, who he believes has improved recently.

“I spoke with Iturbe and told him that he has been our best player in the last few matches,” said Garcia.

“He can make a mistake in one match but he must not lose faith because he’s a very important player for us.

“We will need him for the rest of the season and he must give his all as usual. He has improved a lot in the last few matches.”
