The minnows from a province of Modena secured their first ever leap into the top flight thanks to today’s 0-0 draw with Bari.

“I cannot find the words to describe how good my lads are,” declared Castori on Sky Sport Italia as the promotion party raged around him.

“This is the high point of my career. Finally we are in Serie A! This team is just like me, that’s why we understood each other straight away.

“We are both hungry for success and know how to face this Serie A challenge.”

Lazio President Claudio Lotito had famously said it would be “a disaster” if tiny clubs like Carpi and Frosinone earned promotion to the top flight.

“I don’t want to send a message, I just want to celebrate,” replied Coach Castori.

“I thank the club, director of sport Giuntoli and the lads who have a bright future ahead of them. I also thank our fans.

“My future? I am happy and that is all. I cannot reply now.”
