Gian Piero Gasperini celebrated Genoa’s historic victory over Milan at San Siro, but also slammed his “incompetent” old club Inter.

The 3-1 result at San Siro was Genoa’s first Serie A win here since 1958 and kept the Grifone in the running for Europe.

“I am very happy, because aside from Milan’s obvious difficulties, I’d like the media to highlight how good the Genoa performance was,” said the Coach in a Press conference.

“We were sharp and had quality, which wasn’t easy against a Milan side that had been in a training retreat to prepare for this game.

“Together we are reaching a key moment of the campaign with great belief, almost free from worrying about the table. Tonight we got everything right and everyone gave a strong response.

“If we continue to play like this, we can cultivate that European dream. We are there and we’ll give it our best shot.”

This result has probably put the final nail in the coffin for Pippo Inzaghi, who will likely be sacked by Milan tomorrow.

“It’s a shame for him. It’s difficult to put up with the media pressure and this is a difficult situation, but that’s football.”

San Siro was never kind to Gasperini, whose career at Milan’s city rivals Inter was very short-lived.

“My regret is that I was not given the time to work at Inter. The team was put together at the end of the summer and I was only allowed a few games.

“I was judged incompetent by people who were incompetent. I found a lot of incompetence at Inter. I saw some really terrible things here.”
