The Old Lady has already exceeded expectations this year by reaching the Champions League semi-final against Los Blancos, and their Coach is looking for measures to go even further from Tuesday May 5’s first leg.

“We don't have to play a perfect game against Real Madrid – it is impossible to play perfect games,” Allegri has told Sky Sport Italia.

“Rather we'll have to play a game in which we have confidence in our means, because if the team made it into the Champions League semi-finals, then there must be some merit to it.

“Being among the top four teams in Europe is something extraordinary.

“It's not a matter of formations, it's a question of how you interpret the match when you know you're up against a team like Real Madrid.

“They are sensational from a tactical point of view, because they're coached by Carlo Ancelotti, who won several Champions Leagues, and because their individual players are extremely strong.”

The 47-year-old was also asked about the condition of Paul Pogba, who looks likely to skip the first game against the Spanish team.

“The evaluations made by the doctors are good, I'd even say optimistic. We're hopeful that we'll have him for the return leg against Real Madrid.

“However, the most important thing is just for him to join the group again, because we still have the season's end to play out and the Coppa Italia Final.

“As for the triplete, let's take things slowly. First let's win the Scudetto, then let's see if we can make it into the Champions League Final. It's extremely hard.

“I think the supporters should be pleased so far with what the players have been doing. We're playing a great season. It could become a brilliant one, but only if we take it one step at a time.”

Finally, Allegri was asked what he was most proud of about his players.

“Their passion, their enthusiasm and their availability when they come to the training grounds every day and they get to work.”
