Among the issues at hand are the allocation of 4.55 per cent from the pools, removal without cause of the Secretary of State for Sport, tax inspections on amateur football clubs and “continuing interference” from the CSD.

The RFEF statement notes it had warned the Government repeatedly about these issues, but saw the lack of any movement after three months to be “a lack of respect and consideration to the governing body of Spanish football, which has been ignored and scorned by the Government of Spain.”

The row also involves TV rights and the money that must trickle down to the lower divisions, including amateur teams.

“As a consequence of this disrespectful attitude towards the RFEF and the lack of resolution for all these issues,” they announced all competitions in all categories will be suspended indefinitely from May 16.

This includes La Liga, but should not involve the Champions League and Europa League, where Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla are still in competition.
