Pinturicchio spoke to students and gave some insight into his long and spectacular career, how it all could’ve been so different.
“When I was little, I was meant to sign for Torino’s youth academy, but my mother wouldn’t let me. She said I was too young to be that far from home.
“A year later I ended up at Padova and that’s where my story began.

“When I was little, I was meant to sign for Torino’s youth academy, but my mother wouldn’t let me. She said I was too young to be that far from home.
“A year later I ended up at Padova and that’s where my story began.
“Right from primary school I knew that I wanted to become a professional football player. I had to write a paper on what I wanted for my future, but I thought I couldn’t write football player – that’s not a job, is it?
“So I wrote ‘electrician’ like my father, ‘chef’ because I like to eat and ‘truck driver.’ In the little town where I grew up, the truck represented travel. I wanted to travel.”
Alex certainly did that, playing in Australia, India and living for a spell in America.
“In reality I travelled a lot more than that, able to meet extraordinary people all over the world.”
