Inter vice-President says Mauro Icardi working professionally despite ongoing contract disputes, as well as discussing former teammates and Juventus’ success.

Icardi reportedly turned down a contract renewal offer on Sunday and has been in negotiations with the club for months, but Zanetti remains calm.

“Mauro is fine, he's working like a great professional,” he said to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

“I think we should talk about Icardi the footballer, which is what interests us, although we must not forget that one should always have a certain responsibility.

“You should also recognise that you represent an important shirt and so everything you do will always be put under the spotlight.”

Zanetti also commented on his former teammates Esteban Cambiasso, now playing for Leicester City, and Dejan Stankovic, who has been linked with a return to the club in a coaching role.

"I'm happy for Cambiasso because he managed to guide Leicester to safety,” said Zanetti.

“My path is different from his, I wanted to finish my career here, but he found this opportunity and is happy.

“He learned a new language and has now played in Spain, Italy and England. Cuchu lives and breathes football and he’s very intelligent, he’s designed to be a Coach.

“Dejan is sure that he could bring all his experience and knowledge of the whole framework. We are talking about someone who knows Mancio well and he would be welcome.”

The former Argentina international complimented Juventus for their successful season, but refused to be drawn into a comparison with his treble-winning Inter side of 2010.

“If they have this opportunity it’s because they have earned it, they have a strong group.

“I don’t like making comparisons, our team then and theirs now are two completely different things.

“They are two different coaches, but both of us got far because we deserved it. In a match anything can happen, football matches are made up of episodes and in a final anything can happen.”

He also commented on the tense atmosphere of San Siro this season after a disappointing season that has seen the Nerazzurri struggling to qualify for the Europa League.

“How do you overcome the fear of San Siro? You have to understand the moment and you have to accept what is happening.

“If you perceive the discontent of the fans, you must continue to give your best. The supporters have always been close to us in the most unconditional way.”
