Mattia Perin revealed he is about to renew his Genoa contract until 2019 and hailed the show fans put on against Inter.

The shot-stopper has repeatedly been linked with Liverpool, Fiorentina, Roma and other top clubs.

“Next week I will sign a contract renewal until 2019. I don’t know what stronger signal I could send about my future,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“The President has a great deal of enthusiasm, like the fans and the team, so is working hard to keep his players.”

A 3-2 victory over Inter last night saw a huge choreography at Marassi, complete with fireworks before kick-off.

“I grew up in the Genoa youth academy. More than a team, this is a faith. It seemed less like Marassi and more the Maracanà. Anyone who comes here will be stunned by the fans we’ve got.”

However, the stadium is one of the main reasons why Genoa might not be allowed into Europe after all.

The club’s application for a UEFA licence was rejected, as the Stadio Luigi Ferraris is not up to code and they forgot to name an alternative venue for home matches.

Genoa have lodged several appeals, but are very likely to be excluded from the Europa League.

“The President tried to reassure us and we know these are bureaucratic issues we cannot control. We just try to earn our place in Europe on the pitch, then of course it would be a shame not to play in it.”
