Carlo Ancelotti has officially been sacked, so Milan step in and Rafa Benitez is the favourite for Real Madrid.

The tactician’s future had been in doubt after failing to win La Liga and going out of the Champions League semi-final to Juventus.

Despite becoming the Coach who lifted La Decima only 12 months ago and pleas from the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Luka Modric, President Florentino Perez was adamant he had to pull the plug.

The decision was announced in a Press conference by Perez this evening.

“Today the board has decided to relieve Carlo Ancelotti of duties as Real Madrid Coach.

“It has not been an easy decision, but it is time to give new impetus to the team to achieve new titles.

“Hopefully we will announce the name of the new Coach next week. Obviously, it would be good if he can speak Spanish, of course.”

Now Milan will step up their attempts to coax him back to San Siro, as CEO Adriano Galliani is already in Madrid this evening.

Serie A are also involved because Napoli Coach Benitez is considered to be the favourite to take over at the Bernabeu.
