UEFA have called for Friday’s FIFA Presidential election to be “postponed” after a slew of high profile arrests.

There are two different investigations taking place in Zurich, as this morning seven high-ranking figures in FIFA were arrested in dawn raids.

The FBI is examining corruption allegations, while Swiss authorities are looking into the way the 2018 and 2022 World Cups (in Russia and Qatar) were awarded.

“We strongly believe the FIFA Congress should be postponed with new FIFA Presidential elections to be organised within the next six months,” UEFA secretary general Gianni Infantino told reporters at the Sheraton Hotel.

Sepp Blatter is running for re-election against Jordan’s Prince Ali Bin al-Hussein.

Other candidates, including former Inter star Luis Figo, pulled out in recent weeks, citing the entire FIFA process as “a dictatorship.”
