Antonio Conte’s lawyer insists he “absolutely wants to remain” as Italy Coach despite threats of a new betting scandal.

There were reports in today’s papers that Conte would break off his contract with the Azzurri if brought to trial over match-fixing allegations.

Conte already served a four-month ban in 2012 for failing to report a potential fix in two games involving Siena in 2010-11.

There were reports in today’s papers that Conte would break off his contract with the Azzurri if brought to trial over match-fixing allegations.

Conte already served a four-month ban in 2012 for failing to report a potential fix in two games involving Siena in 2010-11.

“Antonio Conte absolutely wants to remain in his post on the Nazionale bench,” said lawyer Leonardo Cammarata.

“We presented a request to either archive his part in the investigation or alternatively to go straight to an immediate judgment.”

The Italian legal system can drag on for years with three different levels of justice before a definitive verdict is delivered.

“It is a very, very delicate matter, as the investigation is still on-going and regards a figure who was already sanctioned,” added President of the AIC (Players’ Association) Damiano Tommasi.

“Over the last few months, Conte will have had time to evaluate his situation.”
