The 79-year-old was set to address the conference the day before tomorrow’s presidential elections, which are still set to go ahead despite appeals from UEFA for postponement.

Blatter is aiming for a fifth presidential term but faces intense pressure from calls for him to step down and sponsors threatening to pull out.

UEFA, Diego Maradona and English FA chairman Greg Dyke are among the voices calling for Blatter’s immediate resignation or removal from his post.

These developments come on the back of yesterday’s dramatic arrest of seven FIFA officials as part of a U.S Justice Department investigation into corruption going back more than two decades.

Swiss authorities also announced separately that they are opening an investigation into the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
