Hellas Verona confirmed Luca Toni’s renewal is “a formality,” Andrea Mandorlini could stay and Napoli director Riccardo Bigon is an option.

Having turned 38 this week, Toni is on track to become the oldest ever Serie A Capocannoniere with 21 goals.

“I think he is 95 per cent sure to get the title. His contract renewal is a formality. Luca is fundamental for us and we have no issues keeping him here. We’re even prepared to give him a monthly contract if he wants!”

President Maurizio Setti spoke to Gazzetta TV about his plans for next season, having secured mid-table safety again.

“We will meet with Coach Mandorlini next week to understand if we have the right plans to continue together.”

There are some big changes at the Bentegodi, as director of sport Sean Sogliano is leaving and rumour has it will be replaced by Napoli’s Bigon.

“Saying goodbye to Sogliano was painful, as we created a real rapport of mutual respect. Bigon could arrive, yes, but it depends on Napoli.”
