Gian Piero Gasperini says this was his 'most rewarding' Genoa team, whilst discussing his future.

The Grifone are currently sitting safely on sixth in the standings, a position they secured after a dramatic 3-2 victory against Inter.

“The game against Inter was a good one because both teams were single-mindedly bent on the same objective, which was victory,” said the Coach to Radio Deejay.

The Grifone are currently sitting safely on sixth in the standings, a position they secured after a dramatic 3-2 victory against Inter.

“The game against Inter was a good one because both teams were single-mindedly bent on the same objective, which was victory,” said the Coach to Radio Deejay.

“I've always had some excellent squads. I never had major problems, but from a certain point of view I can say that this particular squad is the one that rewarded me the most.

“We started out with no great objectives and we ended up qualifying for the Europa League.”

The 57-year-old was also asked whether he intended to stay at Genoa.

“I hope so, and regardless of the Europa League, which would be the second in only a few years at Genoa.

“The other one was also wonderful but back then we had champions like [Gabriel] Milito and [Thiago] Motta who gave us a smatter of prestige. This time it was unexpected, but still eagerly fought for.

“Me at Fiorentina? There are about ten of us Coaches going round, but I think that in the end there's going to be very little movement this year.”

Gasperini was then asked to discuss his individual players and their strengths.

“Iago Falque is a player blessed with extraordinary qualities, which this year he was able to translate into the pitch.

“As for [Juraj] Kucka, he's one of those players who didn't have much in the way of a tactical identity, not even when I joined the team, and I was struggling to find the right role for him.

“This year he really developed and now he's a perfect midfielder, with skills of his own that are very easily recognised. He's a strong midfielder with great quality.

“Mattia [Perin] is ready. He's a young goalkeeper, but his physical growth was substantial and he was able to develop here.”

Finally, the tactician ended up with a quip on the rumours about Carlo Ancelotti joining Milan.

“That's what the club wants at all costs. I hope he really does go to Milan, because after that any other club would come across as his second-best choice.”
