The Azzurri have a crucial Euro 2016 qualifier in Split on Friday, as the top two teams in the group go head-to-head.

They have already lost Andrea Barzagli and Simone Zaza to injury, but goalkeeper Buffon and PSG midfielder Verratti are also in doubt.

“Both Verratti and Buffon will remain under clinical observation,” said Professor Enrico Castellacci.

“They’ll stay with us and we will evaluate them over the next few days, remembering we have two games coming up and not one.

“Buffon had a problem with his left elbow, but the rest of the squad is available.”

Italy also play Portugal in a Geneva friendly on June 16, but Buffon and Verratti were not expected to start that game anyway.

Meanwhile, Milan’s Giacomo Bonaventura trained with the Azzurri today after being called up as a late addition to Antonio Conte’s squad.
