According to Spanish paper As, Icardi is seen as the ideal alternative should the Merengues fail to tempt Aguero from Manchester City.

Icardi topped the scorers’ charts in Serie A this season with 22 goals, on a par with Verona’s Luca Toni.

Between Serie A, the Europa League and Coppa Italia, the Argentine bagged a remarkable 27 goals in 48 games.

It’s reported that Inter will have to sacrifice one of their top stars in order to fund the radical transfer strategy requested by Roberto Mancini.

The options are Icardi, Samir Handanovic, Mateo Kovacic and Fredy Guarin.
