Gigi Di Biagio said Italy had “the right approach, tempo and style” against Portugal, but it all goes down to the England game.

The Azzurrini lost their European Under-21 Championship opener to Sweden and performed much better tonight, but were held to a 0-0 draw.

“Sweden is behind us, we had to win this game and didn’t manage it. It was the right approach, tempo and style, we just lacked the goal.

“Sweden is behind us, we had to win this game and didn’t manage it. It was the right approach, tempo and style, we just lacked the goal.

“We have a chance of going through and will fight to the end,” Coach Di Biagio told Rai Sport.

Now Portugal lead Group B on four points, followed by Sweden and England on three, while Italy only have one.

The final games are on Wednesday evening with the Azzurrini going head-to-head with England.

“In these competitions playing every three days it takes a lot out of you. I thought to rotate the squad and the lads responded well.

“We had some positive responses and those are important. Unfortunately we are still only on one point.

“We will have to wait for the result from the other game, but above all win our own. If we don’t start winning, it’s hard to go forward.”
