The Argentine forward has been linked with a return to his homeland this summer.

“I came to Argentina on vacation with the plan of going back to Italy to play,” El Tanque told TyC Sports.

“The opportunity to join Independiente presented itself and the negotiations began. It’s not up to me, though, as the club must discuss terms with Atalanta.

“There is a big economic difference between them, so it’s down to them now.”

Over the last couple of days, Denis has also been approached by River Plate.

“I didn’t know anything about that and was informed when I arrived in Argentina. Never say never, but it seems very difficult to me.

“Independiente have the priority as far as I am concerned.”
