He had no place in new boss Sinisa Mihajlovic’s staff, but was kept on in a new role that was invented specifically for him.

The former right-back gave Mediaset Premium Sport a tour of the Milanello training ground, which has been his home for 35 years now.

“I believe much of Milan’s success comes from a place like Milanello, which allows you to distance yourself from the city for a while.

“It is strange that a club like Milan trains outside the city. There might be more modern or functional places, but Milanello has its own appeal.

“In 35 years so much has happened here. During the Farina years we even used to host wedding receptions in the club house.”
