There were numerous candidates to take over, but Ranieri has signed a three-year contract.

“I'm so glad to be here in a Club with such a great tradition as Leicester City,” Ranieri told the club’s official website.

“I have worked at many great clubs, in many top leagues, but since I left Chelsea I have dreamt of another chance to work in the best league in the world again.

“I wish to thank the owner, his son and all the executives of the Club for the opportunity they are giving me. Now I've only one way for returning their trust: squeeze all my energies to getting the best results for the team.”

Now 63, Ranieri is back in business after a very brief spell as Coach of Greece, which culminated in his dismissal in November with just four games played.

His last club position was at Monaco, ending in May 2014.

This is a return to the Premier League for ‘Tinkerman’ after leading Chelsea from September 2000 to June 2014.
