Fiorentina Coach Paulo Sousa has reportedly blocked Stefan Savic’s move to Atletico Madrid, while bidding for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Montenegro international Savic has been the subject of intense transfer talk over the summer, but Gazzetta dello Sport has reported that Sousa has blocked any move to Atletico because he regards the 24-year-old as a fundamental part of the squad.

Sousa had expressed his desire to keep hold of the defender after the Viola’s 2-0 win over Carpi yesterday, saying 'I would like the team to be balanced and competitive in every area.'

Meanwhile, the Artemio Franchi side’s efforts to pinch highly-rated midfielder Milinkovic-Savic from Lazio have reportedly intensified.

Gazzetta have reported that the Viola have submitted a bid of €9m to Genk that includes a 40 per cent of next sale clause for the Belgian club.

The 20-year-old is in advanced talks with Lazio over a move to the capital, but Fiorentina now appear to be in pole position after Aquile sporting director Igli Tare said on Friday that there was ‘no deal’ for the Serbian Under-20 World Cup winner.
