The midfielder sat down with the Nerazzurri’s official Facebook page to answer some fan questions, including that his roommate at the Riscone training camp was Jonathan Biabiany.

Much has been said about Mancini’s phone call to Kondogbia when he was at Monaco, so what convinced the midfielder?

“He told me this would be an important opportunity for my career. I chose Inter also because of him, but the truth is I always wanted to play in Serie A.

“I think this was the best choice for me to grow and Mancini will help me to improve even more. Having his faith in me is very important.

“The Coach will decide my position, even if I prefer to play as a left-sided internal midfielder. I am at his disposal.

“I am very happy at Inter and there are strong players. The season has just started and we still need to find the right movements. I like everything here and want to settle quickly into the group.”

Kondogbia was asked if the Scudetto really was possible in his debut Serie A season.

“I can’t say one way or the other now, as the campaign has just begun, but this team has the characteristics to get the Scudetto. We must be concentrated for the entire campaign. We’ll try our best.

“The fans gave me a very warm welcome and I hope it can always be like this. I want to repay their affection during the campaign.”

Kondogbia also revealed some of his idols in the football world.

“I’ve always been passionate about this sport, as my father is a football player and so is my brother. I was really enthralled watching their matches as a kid.

“Abou Diaby is my favourite player. He overcame so many obstacles during his career, but his quality has never been in doubt. He has always been an example for me and his style of play means he’s someone I model myself on.”
