Mario Balotelli reportedly offered himself to Inter and turned down Al-Ahli, but is waiting for Lazio in the Champions League.

The striker is no longer wanted by Liverpool just one year after his arrival from Milan.

He has been repeatedly dropped for pre-season friendlies and told to train separately from the squad.

"Every player in the squad knows where they stand," replied Brendan Rodgers when asked whether Balo had a future at Anfield.

There are numerous reports over what path his career could take next, including a loan to Sampdoria or newly-promoted Bologna if Liverpool cover most of his wages.

According to today’s edition of the Corriere dello Sport, SuperMario called up his old club Inter to offer his services.

The response was overwhelmingly negative, as Balo burned many bridges there and it didn’t help that he is a self-professed Milan supporter.

Lazio remain the most likely candidates, but only if they get past Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League play-off.

It also emerged that Al Ahli made an offer for the 25-year-old, as confirmed by Coach Cosmin Olaroiu.

“We thought about Balotelli and we even had a discussion with his agent Mino Raiola. But Balotelli turned down our proposal because he wants to play for another team.”

Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero let slip that Liverpool’s asking price for the striker was €10m (£7m) – around half what they paid to take him from Milan a year ago.
