Antonio Cassano is a Sampdoria player again, signing a two-year contract. “I am so happy.”

He turned 33 last month and was a free agent after terminating his Parma deal in January over unpaid wages.

Coach Walter Zenga had said repeatedly he did not see Cassano as part of his plans at Samp, but President Massimo Ferrero over-ruled him.

“He will become our symbol,” declared the patron this weekend. “He will prove himself to be a great man.”

“He will become our symbol,” declared the patron this weekend. “He will prove himself to be a great man.”

It’s a two-year contract worth €0.8m per season plus bonuses, but reportedly has a clause allowing Samp to terminate if he has one of his trademark ‘Cassanate’ tantrums.

“I am so happy. Always Forza Samp!” were his first comments on the club website.

His first training session will be this afternoon.

FantAntonio already passed his medical on Saturday and returns to Samp, where he had perhaps the best spell of his career from 2007 to January 2011.

That time was interrupted by a furious row with then-President Riccardo Garrone, an incident Cassano calls the biggest regret of his life.

It was followed by brief sojourns at Milan, Inter and Parma, all of which ended in bitter circumstances.
