Preziosi has been ‘trolling’ the Sampdoria fans ever since, sending a message trailed behind a plane over the city that read: ‘I’m sorry, but I did all I could for you. Enrico.’

Today the Grifone President doubled down with another message flown for all to see. ‘I was joking… I’m happy! Enrico.’

Just to make absolutely sure Sampdoria got the point, Preziosi also spoke to Sky Sport Italia.

“My response was to initial mockery, a provocation. I have to be honest, I was happy they went out of Europe.”

Today Antonio Cassano signed a two-year contract with Sampdoria, but the player had been linked with the Grifone too.

“This soap opera has been going for some time. Out of respect to the fans, there are moves we prefer to avoid for many reasons.

“Of course, as a player his quality is beyond dispute, as he always makes the difference.”
