Borja Valero believes Fiorentina can overtake Milan and Inter in the league and backs Giuseppe Rossi for a 'devastating' return.

The Viola will be up against renewed competition as the Milanese teams made heavy investments on the market, but the midfielder believes everything is yet to be decided.

The Viola will be up against renewed competition as the Milanese teams made heavy investments on the market, but the midfielder believes everything is yet to be decided.

“Three years ago, when I accepted the offer from the Della Valle family, I never expected to come ahead of Inter and Milan so often.

“They are clubs that wrote important pages in the history of Italian football and who spend much more money on transfers than we do.

“This year I hope to end ahead of the Milanese teams again. I'm not content with looking at the past.

“We reached fourth place three times, let's see if we can improve on that.

“That's the right approach, even though we already know that it's going to be difficult.”

Fiorentina are up against Milan on their Serie A opener this Sunday, and Valero identified a threat in their new striker Carlos Bacca.

“The Colombian is strong, he's talented. Milan signed many important individuals but we'll see how they gel together on the pitch.

“A great team is more than the sum of its great players.

“[Alessio] Romagnoli? To be honest in the last championship he didn't attract so much attention for his performances.

“But I believe he's worth the €25m that Milan invested in him. There aren't that many good defenders going round.

“Fiorentina-Milan is going to be spectacular, but no result should be taken as a final verdict.”

The 30-year-old was then asked about his fellow teammates Joaquin and Giuseppe Rossi.

“I'll accept any decisions Joaquin should make, and I think he should be cheered if he plays against Milan.

“As for Pepito, he is devastating when he's in condition.

“He can be Fiorentina's best new player,” he said, in reference to the player's return after a long injury.

“For the moment he's working within schedule and that's a good sign.”
