“I'm really pleased. I hugged [Ravel] Morrison and [Edson] Braafheid because we are a great group, we're all doing well together and I felt like sharing that moment of joy.

“We played a great game, dominating for twenty minutes. But after that we dropped our pace, even though we still had a few good chances.

“I want to thank all of our supporters, who backed us during this match.

“It was important to start out well, this victory is encouraging ahead of the rest of the season.”

Finally, the 20-year-old was asked about his tactical role, which famously alternates between that of a midfielder and a striker.

“I can play as a central poacher because I've got the build for it. But I'd rather play on the wing, because I enjoy challenging my opponents one-on-one.”
