As Milan released their grip on Roberto Soriano, now Sampdoria confirm negotiations with Napoli for the midfielder.

“Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to give Soriano to Maurizio Sarri, while Adriano Galliani is doing the same for Sinisa Mihajlovic,” Samp lawyer Antonio Romei told Radio Crc.

“President Massimo Ferrero is resisting, though. Napoli and Milan are very interested, but Soriano is an extremely important player for us.

“We do have an excellent rapport with the Partenopei, but we want to conclude the most important moves by Thursday at the latest.

“This morning there were negotiations between (Sampdoria director of sport) Carlo Osti and (Napoli director) Cristiano Giuntoli.

“Soriano has never been for sale, but there is interest and we are in talks. Only cash or a player-exchange? We are not interested in any Napoli players.”

This rules out the reported proposal of €12m cash plus Juan Camilo Zuniga.

The Italy international has been valued at €10m-€15m, including bonuses, but negotiations with the Rossoneri failed to find a breakthrough.

It was reported today that Milan President Silvio Berlusconi slammed the brakes on any improved offer after their poor opening day performance in the 2-0 defeat to Fiorentina.

That opened a window for Napoli to step in, resuming where they had left off, as Soriano was their target before Milan made an approach.
