Roma and Juventus will find out their Champions League opponents when the draw is made this evening.

Italy will have two representatives in this season’s competition, after Lazio were eliminated in the play-off round by Bayer Leverkusen. The draw takes place at 16.45 UK time.

In contrast to previous years, the Pot One teams will not be seeded based on UEFA coefficient, with the top section instead made up of the winners of the top seven European Leagues, plus the holders.

In contrast to previous years, the Pot One teams will not be seeded based on UEFA coefficient, with the top section instead made up of the winners of the top seven European Leagues, plus the holders.

That means Juventus will be seeded in Pot One, and cannot be drawn against Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain, Zenit St Petersburg or PSV Eindhoven.

Roma, meanwhile, have been bumped up to Pot Three following the elimination of Swiss side Basel, so will avoid playing Shakhtar Donetsk, Sevilla, Lyon, Dynamo Kiev, Olympiacos, CSKA Moscow or Galatasaray.

The 32 teams will be divided into eight groups of four, with no team from the same nation being drawn together. In addition, no Russian team can play any team from Ukraine.

That means Roma and Juventus cannot meet in the group stage.

The Giallorossi could, however, face both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, while Juventus could face Manchester City and Sevilla.

By UEFA coefficient, the Lupi will be hoping to draw Zenit or PSV from Pot One, and avoid Bayern Munich or Barcelona.

For the Old Lady, Bayer Leverkusen and Porto from Pot Two would represent a kinder draw than Arsenal, Manchester United or Real Madrid.

Pot One: Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Benfica. Paris Saint-Germain, Zenit, PSV Eindhoven

Pot Two: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Porto, Arsenal, Manchester United, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Manchester City

Pot Three: Shakhtar Donetsk, Sevilla, Lyon, Dynamo Kiev, Olympiacos, CSKA Moscow, Galatasaray, Roma

Pot Four: BATE, B. Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg, Dinamo Zagreb, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Gent, Malmo, Astana
